Boys County Basketball
Registration is now OPEN and closed November 1st
Our county level teams are for boy’s ages 8 through 17. You age before September 1, 2015 determines your age level. Age groups are: 8U (3rd grade), 9U (4th grade), 10U (5th grade), 11U (6th grade), 12U (7th grade), 13U (8th grade), 14/15U (9th and 10th grade), 16/17U (11th and 12th grade). Example: If your child is in 4th grade and turned 10 before September 1, 2018, they must play up in the 10U (5th grade) group. Age is what the county goes by not grade. Requests to play up an age group level must be made during registration or by email to Brian Trott prior to evaluations. If registering for 8U, your child must turn 8 years of age before the first scheduled county game is played, usually the first or second Saturday of December.
Teams will be divided using the evaluation process when possible. The county has 3 different levels of play A, B, & C. The assigned levels allow for all the kids to be able to participate and play at their skill level to have fun and compete. Practices are twice per week and will be held at Shady Side Elementary, Tracy’s Elementary, Lothian Elementary, Southern Middle School or South County Rec Center. Games are generally on Saturday for all teams 8U - 13U, with some Sunday games. 14/15U and 16/17U games will be played on Sundays. The county selects the gym teams will play in, and this can be anywhere throughout Anne Arundel county. Teams may play in the same gym every week, but in some cases may have to travel to other locations based on gym availability.

When possible, SCYA will hold evaluations at the end of October for all age groups having two or more teams, as we intend to have both a Recreational “C” team and a Competitive “B” team where possible. When evaluations are held, players will be evaluated and placed on the team that best fits their skill level as determined by the evaluators and commissioner.
While this process is difficult and can be stressful, we believe it serves the best interest of the boys, as they develop their basketball skills with players of similar ability. Our evaluations are organized and run by SCYA Boys Basketball Commissioner Brian Trott, as well as Southern high school coaches to determine the placement of the players.
We are finalizing the date for evaluations and will post as soon as possible.
SCYA will be holding open gym sessions starting in October to introduce new families to the SOCO basketball program and welcome back returning players and their families. Registration is not required to attend Open Gym. Our open gym sessions are designed to allow players to learn new and practice existing skills, shoot around and play pickup games. All skill sets are welcome from beginner to advance. Open Gym sessions will conclude October 19th in preparation for evaluations. To attend evaluations registration is required. Hope to see you at our open gym sessions.
ALL Coach’s (Including ALL Assistant Coaches and anyone over the age of 18 years old that will have any contact with the kids) will need to have a completed background check on file with Recreation and Parks in order to coach, no exceptions.
Coaches must attend or have attended the Anne Arundel Parks and Rec Coach’s Clinic within the past 2 seasons to be eligible to coach this coming year OR Hold a GOLD Member Status. The next Clinic will be offered this August and November. Please check the Parks and Recreation site for details.
After registration closes you will need to contact Brian Trott to register at firstname.lastname@example.org or Jo Musgrove at email@example.com
If you are interested in coaching or assisting with a team at any level, please contact Brian Trott at firstname.lastname@example.org, as well as register through the registration site as a volunteer.
