Our winter county level teams are for boy’s ages 8 through 17. Your age before September 1, 2019 determines your age level in which you may participate. Age groups are generally as such: 8u (3rd grade), 9u (4th grade), 10u (5th grade), 11u (6th grade), 12u (7th grade), 13u (8th grade), 14/15u (9/10thgrade), and 16/17u (11/12thgrade). Example: If your child is in 4th grade and turned 10 before September 1, 2018, they will be required to play up in the 10U (5th grade) group. Age is what Recreation and Parks uses to determine their playing level. Requests must be made during registration or by email to Brian Trott. We do our best to honor requests, however if it is determined that evaluations are necessary for any of the age groups, requests may not be considered. When there are multiple teams in the same age group, Recreation and Parks requires that youth organizations provide teams for each of the appropriate levels of play, requiring an evaluation to determine teams within those age groups.
Practices are twice per week and are usually held at Southern Middle and Tracey’s Elementary Schools, but may also be scheduled at other schools within the area, including Shady Side Elementary, Lothian Elementary, and the South County Rec Center. Games will be held on Saturday’s for ages 8 – 13 and Sunday afternoons for all other age groups. Recreation and Parks will determine the gym teams will play in, which can be anywhere throughout Anne Arundel county. Teams may play in the same gym every week, but in some cases may have to travel to other locations based on gym availability.
During the winter season of 2018/2019, all Boys County Basketball participants began purchasing their uniforms for that season and retained for future seasons. If you purchased a uniform during the previous winter or spring season you do not need to purchase one for the upcoming season unless your child requires a new size. If you are not purchasing a uniform, we ask that you please provide the number your child currently has so that we can order all new uniforms appropriately.

ALL Coach’s (Including ALL Assistant Coaches and anyone over the age of 18 years old that will have any contact with the kids during practice and games) will need to have a completed background check on file with Recreation and Parks in order to coach, there are no exceptions. The process takes generally 7-10 days, so please do this as soon as possible.
Coaches must attend or have attended the Anne Arundel Parks and Rec Coach’s Clinic within the past 2 seasons to be eligible to coach this coming year OR Hold a GOLD Member Status. The next Clinic will be offered on November 6, 2019. Please check the Parks and Recreation site for details.
